Show me your face and I'll tell you if you're healthy or not. Why you should always look in the mirror twice every morning.

The eyes are the window to the soul

Many people look in the mirror every day and are annoyed by the pimples, wrinkles and bags under their eyes. But what most people don't know is that many of the changes to the face can be signs of serious illness. Take a close look at your face and find out if you're as healthy as you think you are...

1. Forehead

Is the skin on your forehead tight, pale or red? This could indicate that your metabolism isn't functioning properly. The forehead shows problems with the liver, which is responsible for getting rid of toxins in our bodies. It could also be a sign that your gall bladder isn't working properly.

2. Temples

If your temples are red or swollen, it could be a sign that your kidneys are overloaded. These kinds of skin problems result when toxins build up in the body, but they can also be caused by consuming too many processed foods.

3. Upper lid

If your spleen is healthy, the area above your eyelids will appear glowing and awake. The spleen is responsible for maintaining a healthy immune system by storing and producing white blood cells. If you upper lids appear swollen, red or simply a lot different than usual, it could indicate that your spleen isn't working properly and you should see your doctor as soon as possible.

4.  Rings under the eyes

After a long night and not enough sleep, many people wake up with dark rings under their eyes. If these rings don't disappear when you get enough sleep, you should take a closer look.  When the rings look pale or gray, it  could be an indication that something is wrong with your kidneys. If you really have bags under your eyes, it could be a sign of stress. General lack of nutrition can also cause rings under the eyes.

Young people who have "crow's feet" around their eyes might have a problem with their liver. It can also be caused by constant negative feelings such as sadness.

5. Upper cheeks and cheekbones

People who suffer from gray discoloration, enlarged pores or atony in this area may have problems with their lungs. This often happens to smokers.

6. Lower cheeks

Discoloration in this area indicates that the person's diet is too fatty and that the stomach is being overworked. If this is accompanied by atony, it could mean that the person has a problem with their metabolism. Swelling and pimples in this area are a strong sign that the person has an intolerance to certain foods.

7. Upper nose and nostrils

A deep fold or swelling on the bridge of the nose can indicate disrupted thyroid function. Thick nostrils, on the other hand, are often caused by enlarged lungs, a common problem among asthma patients. Red nostrils could indicate a bronchial infection. In any case, if you notice that your nose looks a lot different than it used to, it could mean that your lungs aren't working properly.
